This just in! (Wow, it's fun saying that.)

Verizon got its final approval today, from the New York Public Service Commission, to offer FiOS TV service in New York City. (Reuters article; Verizon news release)

The Big Apple will see FiOS TV launch in the coming weeks, with the planned service rollout extending to all five boroughs of the city by 2014. (It will take a few years to build out the network from scratch, but as we've seen, hooking up new customers after their apartment buildings have been passed by the fiber lines is relatively easy.) 

Of today's historic decision, Verizon senior VP Monica Azare said, "Already, interest by the average New Yorker has been staggering.  In the past few weeks, we have been taking orders in the New York City launch neighborhoods for Verizon's triple play of FiOS TV, FiOS Internet and wired, reliable telephone service.  

"We will have more to say soon about the introduction of FiOS TV service in New York City.  But for now, we're thrilled to be able to bring FiOS TV to the people of New York."

Congrats, New Yorkers! Perhaps some day you'll even get to see the My Home 2.0 RV barreling down Broadway...
